legal age to leave home in australia

We started A4e in order to provide the redundant workers with the training they needed to find work in other industries. And – the flip side of the coin – we were able to supply companies with newly trained and enthusiastic workers.

From our South Yorkshire beginnings, we’ve expanded quite a bit. And we don’t just mean to North Yorkshire. Our growth has been on a global scale. We’re now improving lives all over the world. As far away as Australia, in fact. “Doing well by doing good,” as our Chairman, Emma Harrison puts it.

We’re much bigger than we once were, but our concerns are the same as ever. We still want to bring about social change. To help the disadvantaged. And to put equal opportunities into practice in away that others only pay lip service to.

About Emma Harrison

She’s tenacious, driven, hardworking and one of the UK’s most successful entrepreneurs. Yet first and foremost, Emma Harrison believes businesses can and should do good.

As well as her business interests, Emma is a mum of four, works tirelessly for charity and lives in a “posh commune” with 20 of her friends and family. Her story is one of creativ...

the recorder legal

[Amy Miller]

If you find yourself in trouble with the law at Burning Man this year, a Palo Alto attorney can help.

David Levin, of Levin Law Firm, is offering free legal advice to anyone who gets in trouble with law enforcement at the annual counterculture celebration in the Nevada desert. Known as the “Burning Man Barrister,” Levin has formed Lawyers for Burners, a legal defense team that will aid festival goers who run afoul of federal officers.

Levin has been an outspoken critic of law enforcement efforts at the celebration in the Black Rock Desert. He’s accused federal officers of destroying the event by posting undercover agents at dances and walking drug-sniffing dogs around the camps. Levin is on vacation and could not immediately be reached for comment.

“It’s a police state out there,” Levin told the Associated Press. “There’s very little criminal activity at the event, but they cite and arrest people in order to justify their existence.”

About 50,000 people are expected to attend Burning Man, which runs through Sept. 6.

are employer background checks legal

Last month, after a quick, quiet, morning vote approving approximately $600 million in border security funding, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's office issued a statement calling for "comprehensive immigration reform that secures our borders, cracks down on unscrupulous employers, and requires those here illegally to get right with the law, learn English, pay taxes, pass criminal background checks, and go to "the back of the line."

A week or so later, Congressman Raúl M. Grijalva (D-AZ) echoed Senator Reid:

We have to know who's here.  They have to register.  They have to pay a fine.  They have to have a background check.  They have to be law-abiding, working; and I think those people get in the back of the line and are given the opportunity to earn legalization.

Thus, what was once a "path to citizenship" for unauthorized immigrants living in the United States became, for a time, "earned citizenship." Now, it seems the language of legalization has again shifted to a "back of the line" citizenship.

So, what is "back of the line" citizenship? No one I talk to seems t...

HOUSING CRISIS: ‘Road map’ for foreclosure aid offered, GREG LINCH

A Broward task force charged with helping to prevent foreclosures came up with 23 recommendations.

Broward County has seen almost as many foreclosures in the first five months of this year as it did in all of 2007 — 13,944 through May this year, compared with a total of 14,079 last year, according to a report submitted to county commissioners on Tuesday.

The report includes 23 recommendations from the Broward Foreclosure Prevention Panel, authorized by the Broward County Commission in February. Recommendations by the 17-member task force include everything from educating the public to redirecting public money so cities can buy foreclosed properties.

Broward County Mayor Lois Wexler, the panel’s chairwoman, hopes the suggestions will be treated as a “road map” by the county and Broward municipalities.”I don’t know that every recommendation can be done,” she said. “But I do know that our goal was to prim...

Earlier this week a press release announced that exterior renovations were underway at the Hilton Pittsburgh but that’s not the only news from the hotel. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Hilton Hotels & Resorts has terminated its Franchise License Agreement with Shubh Hotels Pittsburgh LLC, the owner of the Downtown hotel, leaving it without the Hilton name. A Hilton spokesperson said that the owner had violated the terms of the franchise agreement.

The hotel is located at the gateway to Pittsburgh’s Golden Triangle and has been a Hilton since 1959. The move comes less than two weeks after Shubh changed managers at the hotel, bringing in Prism Hotels and Resorts to replace Crescent Hotels & Resorts after a legal battle. The hotel has been facing problems for years. Workers stopped the plans for the exterior renovations after the contractor walked off the job. The new renovation called for the hotel’s gold aluminum to be refreshed. The 712-room hotel already went through a $30 million interior renovation.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review also says that there has also been an ownership change with Tampa cardiologist an...

A budget bill that would cut K-12 education by less than 1 percent, while trimming the budgets of most state agencies nearly 8 percent, cleared the House late Thursday.

Sponsored by Rep. Luciano “Lucky” Varela, D-Santa Fe, HB 17 passed the House on a 37 to 31 vote. It now heads to the Senate.

In protecting K-12 education and touching lightly on higher ed, the legislation makes shallow cuts to the programs that make up a majority of the state budget. It includes $60 million in cuts for K-12 education and higher ed , but makes deeper cuts to dozens of state agencies across state government, including public safety, children services and state prisons. Those agencies would have to come up with $100 million in savings.

In addition to the state agency cuts, the legislation also would require Gov. Bill Richardson to eliminate the positions for 80 political appointees, or so-called exempt positions. Sixty two of those exempt positions are vacant, meaning the governor would only have to trim 18 positions.

That provision follows a flurry of bills filed this week that would limit the governor’s ability to hire political appointees.

The governor...

“We really do walk and talk our environmental stewardship,” he said. “When you look at the places we operate, whether it’s Yellowstone or Grand Canyon or Mount Rushmore – if you’re not a steward of the environment then you really shouldn’t be there.”

Anschutz bought Xanterra in 2008 after it enjoyed a long heritage as a Fred Harvey hospitality company dating to 1876.

“Right now we are expanding our company,” Todd said. “Presently we have the bulk of our business in the National Park operations. We want to grow into the resort area, and Kingsmill is actually our first acquisition since that change in ownership.”

“We know all about hospitality,” he added, citing Silverado Club and Resort in northern California, which the company managed during four decades. It included golf, condos, houses and homeowner associations, “So we understand Kingsmill quite well. We don’t have all the answers, but we have experience.”

He pledged to work with executive vice president Robin Carson and her staff  “to make Kingsmill a better pla...

I want to pop the question to her. --"If we got married we would be the best parents around. She's so loving and puts everyone else before herself. She'll be a great mother." --Jeff admits that his proposal will take Snooki by surprise, but he says, quote, "Once she deals with the shock I think she'll say yes. I really do. In fact, I know she'll say yes." --Oh, and before you ask, Jeff KNOWS you think he's just doing this for his own publicity . . . but he swears he's not. And no one knows what Snooki's response is yet.
